We traveled last summer to Europe. The route was U.K, France, Switzerland, Italy, again France, Holland. So we started from London. Arriving to Gathwick we immediately felt that we are in G.B, not Canada... 
The prices it was. 30 pounds just to get to Victoria station is an expense... may be THE EXPENSE. But the most of the fun started when we did arrive to Victoria:) The closes routs to the East London were close as there were some ongoing repairs and we had to switch (yes with backpacks!!!!) 4 or 5 lines till we got to the West Ham... And the hotel room was of course not ready yet despite of a good hotel rating:) But this is different story
